Carton paper types are extremely diverse and varied. To keep it simple, Hoang Phuc Pack divides them into 3 types as follows:

3.1 Classification of carton paper based on construction

Based on construction, carton paper is divided into 4 types: 2-layer carton paper, 3-layer carton paper, 5-layer carton paper, and 7-layer carton paper. Each type has its own characteristics:

a) 2-layer carton paper

2-layer carton paper consists of 2 layers of carton paper: 1 layer of regular carton paper and 1 layer of corrugated carton paper. 2-layer carton paper is commonly used to make partitions and product padding when packaging goods. In addition, 2-layer carton paper is also used to produce small, compact, and attractive 2-layer carton boxes.

b) 3-layer carton paper

3-layer carton paper consists of 3 layers of carton paper: 1 corrugated layer in the middle and 2 paper layers on the outside. They are bonded by extremely strong Hydro force. 3-layer carton paper is used to produce 3-layer carton boxes in many fields such as clothing, cosmetics, COD shipping, etc.

c) 5-layer carton paper:

5-layer carton paper is a type of carton paper with 5 thick and sturdy layers of carton paper, ensuring reliability during use. The construction of the carton paper layers includes: 2 outermost layers of carton paper alternating with 2 layers of sinusoidal corrugated paper and 1 layer of carton paper in the middle of the 2 corrugated layers.

5-layer carton paper is widely used in the production of 5-layer carton boxes and used to make children's toys, handmade boxes, etc.

d) 7-layer carton paper

Similarly, 7-layer carton paper is made of 7 layers of carton paper, including: 2 outer paper layers and 2 inner paper layers alternating with 3 layers of sinusoidal corrugated paper. This is the type of material used to produce 7-layer carton boxes according to customer requirements.

3.2 Classification of carton paper based on flute type

Based on flute types, carton paper is divided into 4 most popular types: A-flute carton paper, B-flute carton paper, C-flute carton paper, and E-flute carton paper.

• A-flute carton paper: approximately 4.7mm thick. It is a type of flute with high durability and excellent force dispersion.
• B-flute carton paper: the thickness of the B-flute layer is approximately 2.5mm. Carton boxes made from this type of flute are mostly used to produce carton boxes and food packaging boxes.
• C-flute carton paper: The thickness of this carton paper layer is 3.6mm. C-flute carton paper combines the advantages of both A & B flutes. This is the most widely used flute when producing carton boxes, die-cut boxes, fruit and vegetable packaging, etc.
• E-flute carton paper: The thickness of this carton paper layer is 1.5mm. It is commonly used to produce carton boxes and small-sized carton boxes, such as cosmetic boxes, pharmaceutical boxes, medical supplies, etc.

3.3  Classification of carton paper based on color

Based on color, carton paper can be divided into 2 types: white carton paper and brown (yellow-brown) carton paper.

a) White carton paper

White carton paper is commonly used to produce premium carton boxes to enhance the product's value in the eyes of customers. 

There are 2 types of white carton paper: carton paper made from 100% white carton paper and carton paper with a white carton paper outer surface and a regular yellow-brown carton paper inner surface.

b) Brown carton paper

This type of paper is used to produce common carton boxes or used as padding paper, protective sheets, etc.

In addition, based on the characteristics of the paper, there is hard carton paper. This type of paper is made of paper fibers pressed and compressed at a high density to create rigidity for the paper sheet. Hard carton paper is also known as solid paper.

Carton paper has a smooth, beautiful surface and excellent load-bearing capacity. It is used to produce carton boxes for packaging heavy goods, fragile goods, etc.
